🇨🇩 Tshisekedi Faces Pressure Over Constitutional Reform KINSHASA — September 17, 2026 President FÉLIX TSHISEKEDI is facing growing political opposition over proposed constitutional changes that could potentially allow him to seek another presidential term. Opposition groups organized protests in Kinshasa and other cities on September 15, while police used tear gas and warning shots to disperse some demonstrators. TSHISEKEDI says constitutional reform should ultimately be decided by the Congolese people through a referendum. His government is also dealing with ongoing conflict in eastern Congo, peace negotiations involving Rwanda, and the Ebola outbreak. The debate over the constitution is expected to remain a major political issue in the DRC as the country approaches the end of TSHISEKEDI’s current term in 2028.

# AFRIMMA 2026: African Music and Culture Take Over Dallas as the Awards Return **Dallas, Texas — September 12, 2026** — African music, fashion, entertainment and culture took center stage in Dallas as the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) returned for a highly anticipated 2026 edition following a two-year break. The celebration brought together artists, entertainers, creatives and members of the African diaspora for a day filled with live performances, cultural experiences and recognition of some of the continent's biggest talents. ## A New Era for AFRIMMA This year's event expanded beyond a traditional awards ceremony. AFRIMMA introduced a festival-style experience featuring music, food, fashion, art, vendors and entertainment, creating a larger celebration of African culture in the heart of Dallas. The AFRIMMA Music Fest took place at Annette Strauss Square at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, with activities beginning around noon and continuing into the evening. More than 100 artists and DJs were promoted as part of the festival experience, representing the diversity of African music and the global African diaspora. ## Major Artists Take the Stage Some of the major performers featured during the celebration included Nigerian stars **BNXN, Ruger, Victony, Kcee and Timaya**, alongside Ivorian rapper **Didi B** and Tanzanian star **Juma Jux**. The performances highlighted the growing international reach of Afrobeats, Amapiano and other African musical styles. ### Didi B Brings Côte d'Ivoire to Dallas Ivorian rapper **Didi B** was among the major international performers at the festival. His appearance added a strong Francophone African presence to an event that brought together artists from different regions of the continent. ## Nigeria Once Again Makes a Major Impact Nigeria entered AFRIMMA 2026 with one of the strongest groups of nominees. **Davido** led the nominations with five, competing in major categories including Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa and Album of the Year for *5ive*. Other major Nigerian names connected to this year's awards included **Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Wizkid, Asake, BNXN, Ruger, Victony, Kcee and Timaya**. Nigeria's strong representation once again demonstrated the country's enormous influence on contemporary African music. ## East Africa Takes the Spotlight East African music also had a major presence at AFRIMMA 2026, with artists from Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and other countries competing for regional honors. ### Tanzania Tanzania had one of the strongest East African representations, with 11 artists and creatives receiving nominations. Among the notable names were: * Diamond Platnumz * Juma Jux * Marioo * Barnaba * Mbosso * Zuchu * Abigail Chams Tanzanian artists also featured prominently in the live festival program. ### Uganda Uganda was represented by several prominent artists, including **Eddy Kenzo, Joshua Baraka and Winnie Nwagi**. Eddy Kenzo and Joshua Baraka competed in the Best Male East Africa category, while Winnie Nwagi was nominated for Best Female East Africa. ### Rwanda Rwanda's representation included **Ariel Wayz**, who competed in the Best Female East Africa category. Her nomination placed Rwanda alongside some of the biggest female artists from across East Africa. ### Kenya Kenya's major representatives included **Bien, Nikita Kering, Njerae and Bridget Blue**. The Kenyan artists competed across the East African regional categories, adding another strong East African presence to the awards. ## Real Warri Pikin Wins Best Stand-Up Comedian One of the confirmed major results from the 2026 ceremony was the victory of Nigerian comedian **Real Warri Pikin**, who won the **Best Stand-Up Comedian** award. She competed against a strong field of comedians from Africa and the African diaspora. Her victory added another major Nigerian win to an evening celebrating African entertainment beyond music. ## Fashion, Food and African Culture AFRIMMA 2026 was also a celebration of African identity and creativity. Attendees experienced African cuisine, fashion, art, vendors, music and cultural activities alongside the performances.
